org.il domain: who it is for and who can register it

A short guide to the .org.il suffix, with a checker for the name you have in mind.

What is an .org.il domain?

.org.il is one of the open suffixes under Israel's country-code domain .il. According to the ISOC-IL registration rules it is "primarily intended for non-profit entities", while .co.il is "primarily intended for entities operating for-profit".

Who can register an .org.il domain?

The rules allocate co.il and org.il names to any person or other legal entity — so unlike ac.il or gov.il, you do not need to prove you belong to a specific type of body. The holder does have to be an existing legal entity: a licensed dealer or an unregistered partnership cannot register a domain name.

Registration goes through an ISOC-IL accredited registrar. See the registrars on the home page and ISOC-IL's full list. Each registrar sets its own price and may ask for its own details.

.org.il or .co.il?

Both are open to the same kind of holder. The difference is the intended audience: org.il is aimed at non-profits and co.il at for-profit entities. Compare with the full .co.il vs .com guide.

Check an .org.il name

Use the checker and tick "Also check org.il, net.il, ac.il…" to see the .org.il result next to .co.il. As everywhere on this site, AVAILABLE is a strong hint rather than a guarantee — confirm with an official WHOIS lookup before you register.
